Video Project: "Caution: Tiger Inside!"

Hello!

I have just finished doing some quick editing to a project (which was very unexpected) called "Caution: Tiger Inside!"

The idea involved putting my friend Giulia Postir into a cardboard box and closing both ends of the box with duct tape (don't worry, she volunteered and she could breath perfectly fine!) and on the side of the box is a written warning saying "Caution: Tiger Inside. Do Not Open!" This whole idea was unexpected because, well, we were a bit giddy and wanted to have a bit of a laugh! What was first just a few of us messing around turned into a project were we investigated people's reactions towards this closed up box in an empty space (i.e the hallway) which made tiger sounds.

It was fascinating to see how people interact with this cardboard box that lay on the floor of the hallway as they past by to go to their studios. I started video recording it, and if I knew it was going to turn into a great idea, I would have used a better camera, and I would have held the camera better! It will be great to see how I can take this idea further in the future!

I would upload the video to either Youtube or Vimeo, if it wasn't such a big video file, but if you are either a tutor or a student in L.S.A.D and you are interested in seeing this video, please feel free to find me in the college (I'm in studio FF22!) and I will show you the video!

For now, here are some stills from the video, and I will talk to you guys again tomorrow!

Inspiration... (+ Links to Other Social Sites)

Hello once again!

Inspiration...

Today I thought I would show you a few artists which give myself inspiration for my brief. From what I have research so far, I have gained a lot of interest in many works by artists such as Anthony Gormley, William Kentridge, Swoon, Antoni Tapies, Robert Irwin, and I have even became interested in work such as Issey Miyake's fashion work, which is something which I thought I would never delve into before.

All of these artists and designers (and many others too) are of great help to me when I am looking for work that relates to restricted space and auras. I will post more detailed updates on these artists and more soon But for now here are some of the work by these artists which are fascinating.

Links To Other Sites

I also have accounts on various other social sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, deviantArt, and Ask.fm. Feel free to add me as a friend on Facebook and chat, follow me on Twitter to cath my latest ramblings, or ask me any question you want on Ask.fm. I also have a deviantArt account, where I upload my latest works, so please do watch me on dA if you are interested in more works by myself.

Thank you, and bye for now!

Moving on to "Restricted Space"

Hi!

I am making great progress with my research for my brief now that I have talked to my group tutors today. At 10.15am this morning, we had a group tutorial where our tutors came into our studio and discussed our work. Very similiar to the Crit we had last Friday, but this time around, it was more one to one with the tutors.

Restricted Space & Auras

From the discussion with the three group tutors, I feel like I have been working on a few ideas which I should focus alot more on. After great thought, I feel I should focus on Restricted Space, such as how people fit in a Restricted Space and how they feel in that space, and I also want to focus more on people's Aura's and how each person has a different aura to them, which they use to sense the space surrounding them.

I hope to achieve a lot of what I have jotted down in my journal by the end of this week, and, to be honest, I am feeling much more comfortable with the idea of Restricted Space and Auras.

Best get some rest to keep the brain thinking!

Bye for now!

The First Crit and Gathering Ideas

Hello again,

Sorry for not posting anything the last couple of days, I had a few issues that needed sorting out, but everything's fine now.

The First Crit

On Friday morning, we have had a discussion bout or work so far with one of the Tutors in the college. I must say it definitely helped me learn which path I should take and how I should go about exploring my main idea. I now know that I should study cultures of people in different spaces such as passengers on the local bus, shoppers walking down the streets, and even the students relaxing in the courtyard of L.S.A.D.

Gathering ideas

I've spent this weekend researching ideas based on Personal Space and how humans interact with each other in given spaces. I must say, it's quite hard, but I'm still learning the direction which I'm taking for this brief, and I find it more useful talking to my peers and then researching ideas rather than staring at a computer screen Googling random words, hoping to find a good reference picture.Tomorrow, I'm hoping to talk to a couple more tutors for some more help.

Anyway here are some more pictures for you guys before I go! Bye for now!

Exploring The Idea of "Personal Space"

Getting Ready for the first Crit

Hi!

Tomorrow is the day when the tutors will be discussing our work with us, and so today was the day to get more done to show off. ;)

Personal Space

One of the main ideas I have for the theme of "To Sense My Space" is "Personal Space". This refers to the space within yourself and the space around you. Many people can sense when their personal space is being "invaded", which makes them feel closed-in and uncomfortable. I'm finding it very interesting to research the idea of "Personal Space", and how I can portray my ideas with the use of different media, styles etc.

So here are a couple more pictures based on the idea of "Personal Space". I hope you enjoy them, and I'll be talking to you again tomorrow!

The Beginning of Sensing My Space

Breaking out the Brainstorm

Hello again!

So I decided to start my research on the topic "To Sense My Space" by creating a brainstorm. Once I read through the given brief, brainstorming my idea seemed to be the best way to kickstart my research.

Through brainstorming, I gained a lot of fresh ideas for the many types of space, such as Urban Space, and Personal Space. So far, I feel pretty confident with my ideas, sketches etc, but I am really looking  forward to meeting with my Group Tutors and hearing what they have to say about my work.

I'm always wrecked when I get home from collage, but I can't complain, since I'm having fun working away in my studio! Tomorrow I'm meeting my Group Tutors, which I'm really looking forward to as well. Here's to another great day at collage!

See you soon!

The Grand Opening Of My Art Blog.

Welcome to a new beginning!

Hello there!

My name is Patrick Horan, and I'm a student in Limerick School of Art & Design, and I have created this blog to show you my progress during my time in this wonderful college.

So far, I am making good progress. I have already made many research sketches, and I will start posting pictures of my progress tomorrow, once I have my camera with me. My time so far in the college has been amazing, and I'm already making new friends.

Hopefully many of you who will be reading this will find my updates interesting enough to get you to read my blog on a daily basis!

See you tomorrow!
